PRESS RELEASE

Inspire Institute and George Mason University Partner to Launch New STEM Professional Learning Series

Washington, DC - The Inspire Institute for Math & Science, in partnership with George Mason University’s College of Engineering and Computing (CEC), announces Teaching Math for Impact: Building Readiness and Resilience in STEM, a free six-session hybrid program designed to strengthen teacher practice and expand student readiness for STEM futures. Applications are open through January 9, 2026.

“Mathematics plays a vital role within the broader STEM ecosystem,” said Dr. Lou Edward Matthews, Founder of the Inspire Institute for Mathematics and Science. “When teachers create learning experiences that connect math to real possibilities, students begin to understand how it supports pathways in engineering, technology, and the sciences. This collaboration with George Mason University allows us to equip teachers with the tools and frameworks to help students see, situate, and plan futures across STEM.” - Dr. Lou Matthews, Founder, InspireMath

The series includes three in-person sessions hosted at GMU’s Fairfax campus and three virtual design studios. Educators will explore approaches to designing rigorous, relevant, and engaging math and science learning that helps students build confidence, strengthen STEM readiness, and envision futures in engineering, computing, and the sciences.

Participants in the program will receive 12 professional learning hours, a digital workbook and design templates, meals at all in-person sessions, and a one-year membership to the Inspire Institute. Priority will be given to educators from Title I schools and GMU partner districts.
