FOUNDING cohort | fall 2026 | Enrollment Closes Oct 14

Every learner arrives mathematically gifted.
Become the tutor who can see it.

The High-Impact Mathematics Tutor Practice Credential certifies what
great tutoring actually requires: connecting with a learner, reading where
they are on the mathematical journey, moving their thinking in the
moment, and designing what comes next.

THE PROBLEM

Tutoring is the fastest-growing layer of mathematics support.
Most people doing it were never prepared for it.

The field's usual answer is to script the lesson so the mathematics lives in the curriculum. Scripts help. But a script cannot tell a tutor what this learner's half-working strategy means, what it will open or block two years from now, or when to stop explaining and hand the work back.

That judgment is the profession. This credential certifies it.

What makes this credential different

Earned through practice

You tutor a real learner twice, reflect on your decisions, and bring the evidence to a clinical coaching studio. Attendance alone does not earn it.

Built on one connected framework

You study the mathematical journey from upper elementary through secondary as one landscape, so you can see what a learner's thinking enables and obstructs in the years ahead.

Real Clinical Experience

Your practicum happens with a real learner, not a simulation. You plan, tutor, and analyze two encounters, then bring your evidence into group and individual clinical coaching with Dr. Matthews.

Grounded in research and best practice

The credential meets the standards districts use for high-impact tutoring, draws on research on mathematics tutoring, and says plainly where it goes further.

THE FOUR PRACTICES OF HIGH-IMPACT MATHEMATICS TUTORING

A high-impact mathematics tutor is an instrument of powerful, inspiring, humanizing mathematics experiences.

Humanizing Connection

Connect deeply with learners, their communities, and their mathematical worlds.

Adaptive Mathematical Trajectories

Adapt and design evidence-based pathways that build strengths, address challenges, and open what comes next.

Responsive Mathematical Coaching

Notice, interpret, guide, challenge, support, and adjust in the live mathematical experience.

Mobilizing Mathematical Agency

Build confidence, autonomy, voice, purpose, and mathematical power for successful action in the world.

How it Works

1

LEARN THE FOUR PRACTICES

Participate in four 90-minute
Professional Studios built around the Four Practices of High-Impact Mathematics Tutoring.

2

PUT THEM INTO PRACTICE

Work with an authentic learner across two tutoring encounters. Apply what you are learning in a real mathematical relationship, not a simulation alone.

3

BRING PRACTICE INTO COACHING

Participate in two Clinical Coaching Studios where you examine evidence from your tutoring, unpack your decisions, and determine productive next moves.

4

DEMONSTRATE YOUR PRACTICE

Bring together evidence from your learning and tutoring to demonstrate competency across the Four Practices and earn the credential.

15 professional hours · 4 Professional Studios · 2 live tutoring · Clinical coaching · Practice-based credential

WHO IT IS FOR

Tutors, interventionists, paraprofessionals, teachers, and anyone providing supplemental mathematics support, in schools, programs, or private practice.

You need one learner you can tutor twice between November 5 and November 24. No teaching license or degree is required.

WHAT YOU EARN

A verifiable digital credential naming the four practices you demonstrated, issued by the Inspire Institute for Mathematics and Science.
YOUR FACULTY

Dr. Lou Matthews

Founder of the Inspire Institute for Mathematics and Science and InspireMath Academy. More than twenty years coaching mathematics learners and educators; led national mathematics strategy work in Bermuda; co-author of the Corwin volumes Engaging in Culturally Relevant Math Tasks; has spoken at the White House on hope, heart, and humanity in STEM.
Dr. Lou Edward Matthews

For schools and organizations

Credential a team of tutors, interventionists, or paraprofessionals together. Enrolling five or more? We will quote a cohort and fit the practicum to your tutoring model.

Questions

How much time does it take?

About 15 hours across five weeks: five 90-minute live sessions, two tutoring encounters with preparation and reflection, and a short synthesis.

Do I need to record my learner?

You submit one short transcript segment. Recording with consent is easiest; a written transcript from notes is acceptable.

Does this license me to teach or use InspireMath methods commercially?

No. It certifies your practice. It is not a teaching license and does not authorize you to deliver or train others in Institute methods.

What is the refund policy?

Full refund if you withdraw before the first Professional Studio on October 22. After that, fees are not refunded, but you may transfer once to the next cohort, including if the learner you planned to work with becomes unavailable. If the Institute postpones or cancels the cohort, you may take a full refund. Organizations enrolling tutors may substitute a different tutor at no cost before October 22. Completing the experience does not guarantee the credential; candidates who do not yet meet a practice may revise once.
